THE MCKEES

Hi, my name is Rachael McKee and I am so pleased that you have taken the time to take a glimpse into my life. Prior to my role as a blogger and volunteer, I held a career in corporate communications, working first in the commercial real estate industry and later in aviation. My life changed in 2010 when my husband, Paul, started applying for jobs in places I had never dreamed of living. Most people have hobbies that include sports, collections or tinkering...not my husband. A pilot, Paul spends his free time surfing the interweb, applying for jobs no matter what the qualifications or where the commitment.

In 2011, we packed up, donated or sold everything we owned. We packed four bags, said good-bye to everyone we knew and then we moved to Singapore. We went from a double-income-no-kids lifestyle in a low-cost community to a single-income-still-no-kids lifestyle in one of the most expensive cities in the world. Our rent increased more than four fold, our grocery budget more than tripled and our gross income decreased; however, our passport stamps have multiplied, our relationship has improved immensely and our life experiences are beyond our wildest dreams.

Paul is currently a corporate pilot in Papua New Guinea; I am just trying to survive. Our standards have been lowered as PNG is the opposite of Singapore in every way and our goal is to spend as many days outside of PNG as possible. Our way of life has certainly changed over the last few years, and we thank God for it!

Cool blog, good luck in Moresby! Certainly a tough gig for a female expat.
